Custom Home Electrician in San Diego

When you're building a custom home in San Diego, the custom home electrician you choose shapes how the finished home functions for years to come. The electrical system affects everything else in the build. Get it right from the start and it disappears into the background the way it should. Get it wrong and it creates problems that are expensive to fix once the walls close up.

CET Electric works with homeowners, builders, and architects on custom home electrical in San Diego. We handle everything from the initial rough-in through the final trim-out and fixture installation. Our team knows how to work within a construction schedule and coordinate with the other trades on site.

Rough-In Electrical

Rough-in is where we build the foundation of the electrical system. All of this work happens before the drywall goes up. We run the wiring, set the boxes, and lay the groundwork for everything that comes later.

Getting the rough-in right matters more than most people realize. During this phase we set every outlet location, every switch box, and every circuit run. Changes after the drywall goes up mean cutting into finished walls, patching, and repainting. We review the plans carefully before we start and flag anything that needs adjusting before it becomes a problem.

Our team coordinates with your general contractor on timing so the rough-in fits into the broader construction schedule. We pull the permits, pass the rough-in inspection, and move the project forward without holding anyone up.

Panel and Service Installation

A custom home needs an electrical panel sized for how the home will actually get used. That means accounting for HVAC systems, kitchen appliances, home theater and AV equipment, EV charging, outdoor lighting, and anything else going into the build.

We size and install the main panel with room to grow. If the home has a guest house, workshop, pool equipment, or other structures on the property, we plan the service accordingly. We coordinate with SDG&E on the service connection and handle all the permit and inspection requirements along the way. If you want to understand more about what a panel upgrade or installation involves, that page covers it in detail.

Smart Home and
Low Voltage

Modern custom homes often include systems that go beyond standard electrical. Structured wiring for networking, whole-home audio, home automation, security systems, and EV charging stations all require planning and coordination during the build.

We install and wire low voltage systems as part of the overall build. Bringing this work into the electrical scope from the beginning means cleaner installations, better coordination, and fewer surprises when it's time to finish everything out.

Trim-Out and Fixture Installation

Once the drywall is up and the finishes go in, we come back for trim-out. This is where we install the devices, covers, and fixtures. Outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, and ceiling fans all go in during this phase.

Detail matters during trim-out. Covers sit flush, we hang fixtures level, and we test everything before signing off. If last-minute changes come up to fixture selections or locations, we work with your builder to accommodate them without disrupting the schedule.

Custom Lighting

Lighting in a custom home deserves the same level of attention as everything else in the design. The right lighting plan makes rooms feel the way they were intended to feel. It works with the architecture, highlights what deserves attention, and gives you the flexibility to adjust the atmosphere based on how you're using the space.

We work directly with homeowners, interior designers, and architects to bring lighting plans to life. This includes recessed lighting layouts, pendant and chandelier installation, cove and architectural lighting, under-cabinet and shelf lighting, smart lighting systems and controls, and exterior and landscape lighting. For a closer look at what goes into a full lighting design, our custom lighting installation page walks through the process.
